Kinetic Static Bow Review | A truly rare beast… an affordable target compound

Compound bows are the pinnacle of archery technology. They are the most accurate, powerful, and efficient iteration of the bow to date. All that technology, research, design and engineering does however come at price. Compound bows are more expensive. Though they can be easier to shoot, they are more complex and thus more complicated to maintain. Put these facts together and you should realize that when someone advertises a “high end” compound bow for less than 25k, that’s a scam. I have seen online stores with those kinds of titles, and I have to tell yah, that’s a joke. Compound bows are expensive. Specially target compound bows. It doesn’t mean however you won’t see “reasonably priced” compound bows. The Kinetic Static is one of the cheapest, good quality, target compound bows in the market today. It is one of the few target compounds that is at around the same price of entry level hunting compounds.

The Static has a cast aluminum riser that was finished on a CNC machine. It has fully CNC machined dual cams which you won’t need a press to make draw length adjustments on. The metal independent limb pockets hold Gordon Glass split limbs. It is 36 inches axle to axle with a draw length range of 18 to 32 inches on a rotating module system. It has 70% let off and poundage ranges of 25 to 40 lbs, 30 to 50 lbs, and 45 to 60lbs. It weighs 4.1 lbs which is very average for a target compound. It’s IBO speed rating is 312 fps. The bow comes with a dloop and peep sight pre-installed out of the box. The riser also has all the mounting holes for stabilizers for target shooting.

Had I not prefaced the article with this being an affordable target compound bow, the specs that I gave would sound like they come from a far more expensive bow. Apart from the paint finish, the Static feels like a premium bow. If it had an anodized finish version, I’m sure it would be selling like hot cakes even at twice the price. It looks beefier in person compared to how it looks on pictures, but it does not look bad at all. The white version I tested with simple understated black limbs and cams look great. Not a bad place to start if you want to invest in a target rig. Unlike most bows at this price range, the Static comes with a colored manual. It’s not a perfect bow but it sure has a lot going for it.

The Kinetic Static is a great beginner target bow. It is easy to adjust and tune. You can slap on an arrow rest, line it up a little, put on a sight and start shooting. The rotating modules allow you to adjust the draw length without using a press. Adjusting the poundage is as simple as turning 2 bolts.

The Static is also as easy to shoot as it is to setup. The draw cycle is smooth and even. I could not feel any sudden drop-offs when hitting the valley. The back wall is solid without any mushy feeling. The shot itself felt heavy. Like it had a lot of power behind the shot. Arrows hit the target with a lot of oomph. Even when setting the bow at lower poundages, shots feel powerful. Vibrations after the shot feel very muted. I barely felt any. The bow is pretty quiet too. Not the most quiet bow I’ve shot but definitely a one of the better sounding bows out there. The bow’s length also makes the bow easier to hold steady in my opinion. The grip is good. Nothing mind blowing or extraordinary. It feels the way a compound bow should feel I guess. The balance of the bow is great. It feels like it just wants to stay still. All in all, a nice bow to shoot.

I have often seen new archers buying cheap entry level hunting bows and setting them up for target shooting. Nothing wrong with that but I really think the smarter choice instead would be to get a bow like the Static. At 36 inches, it is the right size for setting it up for 3D, target, Field or even hunting. And you won’t have to compromise on using a shorter bow. Like in recurves, the difference in stability is night and day.

If you plan on setting up a target compound without spending a tone of cash, give the Static a try. Don’t settle with cheaper entry level hunting bows. You will get more out of this bow. The Kinetic Static. An awesome entry level target bow league better than starting with a cheap hunting bow.
